Long awaited deeds

Excited residents take ownership of their home after more than 30 long years

BRACKENHAM residents were elated to take ownership of their homes as 35 title deeds were handed over in the suburb on Monday.

Some received the keys to their homes over 30 years ago, but receiving the actual document of transfer was a momentous occasion as this cements the ownership of their assets.

Bursting with pride, a few were even brought to tears as they signed for their houses.

Present at the handover was uThungulu District Deputy Mayor Thulani Mashaba.

‘Thirty five residents became the proud owners of their homes – the transfer of which was made possible by the Deputy Director for Human Settlements (Northern Region) Lesley Joseph.

‘He has worked tirelessly at getting the task done and should be applauded for his hard work and dedication,’ said Councillor AS Dawood.

‘Today is a joyous occasion; there is no other sense of pride and achievement, than when a man or woman receives a title deed to their own home.

‘Although 90% of the documents have already been handed over to residents, there are still a few more to be transferred.

‘Outstanding applications are at various stages of processing and are being done.

‘We are trying to hand over all left over title deeds by early next year,’ said Joseph.
