23 babies were born on Christmas in uThungulu district

CHRISTMAS Day was more special and exciting for 23 families in uThungulu District, as they received additional new little members.

An hour after midnight on Christmas morning, a young mother from eMacekane reserve delivered the first Christmas baby in uThungulu District, at the Lower uMfolozi War Memorial Hospital in eMpangeni.

Later the new baby boy was named Nhlanhla, meaning ‘Lucky’. Hospital staff and management welcomed the bundle of joy with gifts, including baby clothes, blankets and cash.

Nompilo Vilakazi from eMpangeni gave birth to the 23rd and last baby in the District around 11.15pm on Christmas night.

During her interview with the Zululand Observer she said, ‘Even though the pain was excruciating at first, I knew in my heart she was just a special gift from God’. The baby girl was named Bayanda.

The district welcomed 11 boys and 12 girls on Christmas Day
