During the past month in Zululand, Father Christmas has been identified as a woman driving a white Ford bakkie laden with blue buckets and spreading Christmas cheer to those who need it the most.
Rain, wind or mud would not deter ‘Do I Care Enough? ‘ (Dice) representative Linda Zeelie from her task of delivering her buckets of essential food items to the gogos and mkhulus of the area, and toys and sweets to the little boys and girls.
Two-hundred Dice buckets filled with essentials like oil, sugar, flour, tea, maize and other food necessities are making their way to elderly men and woman all over the Zululand.
The Christmas Cheer initiative is directed at the elderly with the responsibility of looking after young children, but do not always have the means to do so.
Linda and her team, as well as business people who sponsored gifts for the children, have been visiting local crèches and identified gogos and mkhulus to deliver the goods which will help feed their families over the festive season.
Toys given as presents to little girls and boys at the crèches included dolls and cars, teddy bears and sweets.
This generosity was made possible by the incredible work Dice has unbdertaken throughout the year, especially with two major fund-raising functions – tthe Top Zululand Chef Competition and the DICE 4 DICE function, as well as the generous donations from local companies and the community.
