Report recommends prison for teacher

Teacher dismissed from school and charged with rape

A CORRECTIONAL Services report has found that a 50-year-old teacher, accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, is not suitable for correctional supervision and should be imprisoned.

Correctional Services Officer Mthandeni Blose conveyed the findings to the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court when Nkosingiphile Hlekwayo of eNseleni, arrested in 2009 for raping, the young girl, appeared in court this week after numerous remands.

The case has been adjourned until 11 December.

Husband, father of five and grandfather to four, Hlekwayo at the time of the incident was a teacher at Mzuvukile Primary School in eNseleni.

According to the report presented by Blose, there had been sporting activities held at the school after hours, which the victim attended.

Hlekwayo told the victim to accompany him in his car as he had errands he needed to carry out.

He drove toa nearby bush, raped the girl and dropped her off at the school premises. He allegedly threatened her to remain silent, otherwise she would be expelled from the school.

Hlekwayo then violently raped the victim on three further occasions over a period of three days. Medical evidence proved extensive injury to the child.

According to Blose, Hlekwayo’s wife in an interview said that he had always been a loving and supportive husband who looked after his family.
