Community beats three men to death

Three men die in 'jungle justice' attack

PEOPLE from the Ongoye community took the law into their own hands by beating to death three suspected livestock thieves.

According to police reports, a member of the public called the Mtunzini police station to report the incident.

Arriving at the scene, police found two bodies, identified as Bonginkosi Mthembu and Sandile Mthethwa.

The third person alleged to have been attacked could not be found – until the following day when a resident of eSihuzu contacted the police with information which led them to the last body, identified as 26-year-old Sakhile Mkhwanazi.

No arrests have yet been made.

The police have warned residents not to take the law into their own hands.

‘People abstain from vigilantism. Open a case and let the police do their work,’ said Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.
