School building project creates jobs

Five thousand people employed in provincial school building initiative

AN innovative public-private partnership is providing five thousand unemployed people with jobs in KwaZulu-Natal.

This is thanks to a provincial school building programme spearheaded by the KZN Department of Education and infrastructure development agency Coega Development Corporation (CDC).

A number of schools are being built across Zululand, including the Isikhalasenkosi High School in eSikhawini, to enhance education facilities and offer reprieve to many unemployed community members.

‘This is in keeping with the national government’s plan to provide access to excellent education for all through quality infrastructure delivery,’ says CDC Head of Marketing and Communications, Ayanda Vilakazi.

‘Helping the country to rise above the economic downturn should not be the job of government alone.

‘In meeting the country’s socio-economic deliverables, we will continue to support employment creation and economic growth through our projects,’ Vilakazi said.
