Swift arrests after robbery

KwaDukuza business robbers caught by alert guard and police

TWO suspects are to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects, aged 26 and 45, were arrested on Tuesday at the Market Plaza in the KwaDukuza central business district.

Five men posing as customers entered a pharmacy and held the owner at gunpoint, demanding cash. They also took items from the shelves.

They managed to flee, but the shopping complex security guards apprehended one of the suspects.

Police were alerted and immediately responded and a second suspect was arrested in the vicinity.

The suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and eight live rounds of ammunition, store items and cash taken during the robbery.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crimes.
