New airline boost for Richards Bay

More flights open between Richards Bay and Johannesburg as Airlink comes to town

Travellers will have a wider choice of flights between Richards Bay and Johannesburg when Airlink starts making its services available later this month.

The independent regional airline’s first flight from Richards Bay is scheduled to take off at 9am on Monday, 18 November, followed by another 4pm departure.

Arrivals from Johannesburg are scheduled for 8:35am and 2.20pm.

These will be additional flights to those available from SA Express which has been in operation at the Richards Bay airport over the past 17 years.

‘Airlink is pleased to announce the introduction of new services on the routes Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Richards Bay effective on 18 November,’ said Airlink Marketing and Sales Manager, Karin Murray.

‘The services are in response to popular demand and will be at ideal times to satisfy the requirements of the same day returning traveller in both directions.

‘Our new services will be offered at most attractive pricing and will enable customers to earn Voyager Frequent Flier miles.

‘The services will also be backed by Airlink’s customer centricity, operational reliability and high service standards. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) on its website reports that year to date in 2013 on average 92,67% of Airlink’s flights have departed on time.’

The airline reportedly had an agreement that SA Express would focus on Richards Bay while Airlink would focus on Pietermaritzburg.

But this changed when SA Express announced in September that it would start flying from Johannesburg to Pietermaritzburg, Nelspruit and Cape Town to George.
