Ship fall victim escapes serious injuries

He fell six metres into hull of ship

A ship worker miraculously escaped serious injury after falling six metres into the hull of a ship at the Richards Bay port around on Monday night.

Netcare 911 medics found the man lying at the bottom of the hull before using a crane to hoist him onto the dock.

But to the surprise of witnesses, he was found to have sustained only bumps and bruises on his back and was transported to Netcare The Bay Hospital for treatment.

He reportedly fell while doing contract work for in-port logistics company Bidfreight Port Operations, which stated they could not release any information while investigating the matter.

No case was opened regarding the incident at the Richards Bay police.
