Rural farmers and small business owners learn new skills

CELEBRATING 25 years of service to the people, Philisisizwe Development Trust held a special three-day event at the Richards Bay ZCBF Flamingo Hall last week.

Small business owners, farmers, associations and co-operatives organisations from uMkhayakude, uMhlabuyalingana, uThungulu, iLembe and Zululand Municipal districts shared knowledge and ideas on good business practice.

The Philisisizwe group has assisted thousands of rural people to acquire skills to develop their small business into thriving ones.

Group Director Gugulethu Khumalo said the initiative aimed to empower, develop and share skills with various groups, especially in the rural areas.

‘We assist with training and development of these structure as well as business planning and financial aid. We approach other institutions to also assist with development. Some of our group are involved in farming of cattle, goats, chicken and growing vegetables,’ said Khumalo.

Amongst the groups involved are the Sizanani agricultural project, Thandokuhle, Vezulwazi, Isakhamandla and Ungibukani.
