Job satisfaction keeps Alina in school

Richardia Primary School secretary Alina Erasmus celebrates 30 years of service

A GREAT working environment and job satisfaction is what has kept Richards Bay’s Alina Erasmus at Richardia Primary School for 30 years.

The 65-year-old school secretary recently marked her 30 years long service for the Department of Education and was based at Richardia for this period.

She has been enjoying all the successes and milestones, and she worked with five different school principals over the three decades.

Watching the school grow and upgrade, Erasmus says the introduction of computers was one of the most exciting times and made her work easier.

‘We worked with typewriters and ledger books back then, now everything is paperless.

‘It is such a pleasure to work with the teachers and children, it feels like a family away from home.

‘I have always been satisfied at the school and I feel like I can still do this for a few more years,’ she said.

When she is not at her desk, Erasmus enjoys knitting and spending her time with family, especially her grandchildren.

While her term with the Department of Education has come to an end, she will still be in the school’s employ under the School Governing Body.
