UNIZULU professor to lead SA team

South African nanotechnology team led by Prof Neerish Revaprasadu

UNIVERSITY of Zululand (UNIZULU) Professor Neerish Revaprasadu of Nanotechnology has been appointed to lead the South African team that will participate in establishing a United Kingdom-Africa research union through the Royal Society Africa Capacity Building Initiative.

Prof Revaprasadu said the programme is aimed at scientists who want to develop collaborative research consortia between scientists in sub-Saharan Africa and United Kingdom research institutions.

‘This is a great opportunity to broaden the institution’s reach, research capacity and development of novel systems and innovations whilst establishing international and intercontinental partnerships and collaborations,’ said SARCHi Nanotechnology Chair and Professor of Chemistry Revaprasadu.

This research consortium programme includes researchers and experts from across fields, including Ghana, Cameroon and the United Kingdom (UK). The group leaders are expected to meet in Dhakar, Senegal this month for further discussion.

A follow-up meeting will then be held in the UK in January 2014 with a final proposal submission mid-2014 which will await an outcome for their first project.
