Charity benefits from Post Office

Desks for the children at Izulu Orphan Projects

IZULU Orphan Projects were the deserving recipients of 18 items of second-hand furniture on Tuesday, donated by Zululand Post Offices.

The second-hand furniture was collected and stored in the eShowe branch, where local schools and deserving organisations were encouraged to write in and request items of furniture.

According to the project’s Shelley Bain, the tables, desks and chairs they managed to stack onto their trailer, will allow the organisation to function better thereby aiding the community they serve.

‘We have two support centres and these items of furniture will be used in those centres.

‘We’re an NPO, so any donations are always welcome,’ she said.

The project’s two support centres can be found along the P230 route.

Their aim is to care for orphans and HIV widows between Empangeni and eShowe.

They have been in operation for 13 years.

Last month, eShowe Post Office Branch Manager, Ernest Munsamy donated close to 200 items of second-hand furniture to 16 schools in the eShowe area.

‘Principals sent in their requests for a donation while also indicating what items of furniture they needed.

‘We then invited them to come and choose what they needed. It worked on a first-come first-serve basis,’ Munsamy said.
