Crocodile killed on R34

Nile crocodile killed when hit by a truck on the R34 resulting in the jaw being ripped off

A 1.78m Nile crocodile was tragically killed when the scaly reptile was hit by a truck on the R34 just before the Tronox processing plant on Wednesday night.

Inspector Roland Fivaz of the SPCA was called out to the scene to sadly find the jaw of the crocodile completely obliterated.

The driver, who might well have been in shock, apparently left the scene.

‘We live in Zululand and are surrounded by wildlife. Crocodiles are our heritage’ said Fivaz.

‘Motorists need to be aware and start respecting our wildlife’ added Fivaz.

‘The poaching of elephants for ivory, rhinoceros for horns and crocodiles for hand bags and accessories have drastically contributed to the extinction of South African wildlife and there is a desperate outcry to protect them.

‘We have properly disposed of the crocodile’s body so that it does not land up in the wrong hands’ said Fivaz.
