TWELVE emerging contractors from various industries received intensive training from the Richards Bay Development Zone (RBIDZ) to boost business in northern KZN.

They were chosen to range between youth and women-owned small businesses.

At the award ceremony, RBIDZ Chief Financial Officer Mzamo Khuzwayo stressed that ‘investing in skills development is investing in the future prosperity of the country’.

RBIDZ CEO Pumi Motsoahae added the programme was implemented to assist in boosting job creation, grow the province and achieve the development targets set out by the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Edtea).

‘MEC for Edtea Sihle Zikalala, in his capacity as leader of government business and chair of the economic cluster has singled out SMMEs as deserving attention.

‘Working with various government departments, entities and financial institutions we want to invest in training and mentorship of our SMMEs.’

He said Edtea set aside R25.6-million for training of small businesses.
