Zululanders shine at Ithala SMME Awards

eShowe’s Phumzile Ntuli and Mandeni’s Duduzi Ncanana take first and second place at provincial awards ceremony

TWO local entrepreneurs stole the spotlight from thousands of women across the province for their shrewd business skills at the 2016 Imbokodo Iyazenzela Women in SMME Awards.

The annual ceremony, hosted by Ithala Development Finance Corporation on Saturday in Durban, celebrated exceptional businesswomen in KZN.

Phumzile Ntuli, owner of Qalekhaya Co-operative in eShowe, was declared the overall winner for making her mark in the manufacturing and farming sector.

In second position was Duduzi Ncanana of Just Meats Butchery in Mandeni.

There were 25 finalists at the gala dinner, who were all nominated by fellow businesswomen who attended Ithala workshops and were adjudicated by an independent panel.

The programme, which was piloted last year and reached over 2 400 women in 16 towns across KZN, served as a platform to address the bottlenecks preventing aspiring businesswomen from reaching their full potential.
