Richards Bay Port tower construction delay

Lookout point to remain closed till November

THE Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) confirmed Richards Bay’s popular lookout point will be closed during the festive season while the adjacent port control tower remains under construction.

There is no activity on the site and TNPA did not explain the reason for the standstill, but said construction will resume in March with renovation work expected to be completed by November next year – a year later than the initial 20 September 2015 deadline.

The area has been cordoned off since September last year to renovate and build an additional level to the three-storey station.

‘Public access to the lookout point may be available from the beginning of November 2016 once construction is completed,’ said the TNPA.
