Zululand businesswomen celebrated

Meet the 13 finalists in the Zululand Regional Business Achievers' Awards.

THE prestigious annual Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) Zululand Regional Business Achievers’ Awards recognise local businesswomen for their outstanding achievements, management skills and contribution to the local economy.

The event, set to take place on Thursday, 23 July at the Umfolozi Casino Resort, will also celebrate 36 years of ‘courage, achievement and leadership’ by the BWA Zululand members, as they nominate their peers for their commitment to the local corporate industry.

Keynote speaker

This year, guests are to be inspired, empowered and encouraged by the keynote speaker for the evening, Totsie Memela.

The Non Executive Chairman of Memela Pratt and Associates, Memela is also the CEO of Eduloan – a company that uplifts people through funding education.

Eduloan was established in 1996 and over the years has provided over R4-billion in loans to those with low-income thresholds that deny them access to traditional banking products.

A Fellow with the International Women’s Forum, a nominee for the Duke and Graduate School of Business Fellowship programme and a current member of the Institute of Directors, Memela also sets time aside to invest in the future of young women through her position of President of the Girl Guides of South Africa.

She currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from the University of Swaziland, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Zimbabwe.

Memela has also completed a range of executive programmes at Wits Business School, Rand Afrikaans University, the Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy in New York as well as the Wits/Harvard Business School.
