TRONOX KZN Sands has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable developmental growth by having fulfilled some of the company’s primary environmental goals since 2013.
Highlighting the company’s financial performance and its strategic position as the largest vertically integrated enterprise in the industry, Tronox KZN Sands presented its corporate responsibility report in which the progress of its sustainable development goals are measured.
‘The company is making progress on five primary areas of environmental focus: energy consumption, water use, waste, carbon emissions, and post-mining land rehabilitation. It also shows the company’s dedication to safety, diversity and community development.
‘In preparing its report, Tronox applied the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) framework, a generally accepted methodology for communicating an organisation’s economic, environmental, and social performance,’ said Media Liaison Bud Grebey.
‘A strong commitment to sustainable development and safety is inextricably tied to the long-term success of Tronox,’ said Tronox Chairman and CEO Tom Casey.
‘Whether we are reducing energy use by investing in a co generation plant at our Namakwa Sands mineral separation plant, or eliminating carbon emissions by upgrading oxidizers in our manufacturing processes at our three global pigment production facilities.
‘Tronox is exploring new and innovative ways to lessen our impact on the environment, while continuing our efforts in stewardship and rehabilitation. We make these investments because we believe it is our responsibility to do so. And, in taking these actions, we bring sustainable operating programmes and long-term cost efficiencies to our business that contributes to our overriding business goal.’ said Casey.
