Dondotha grandmother brutally murdered
Her throat was slit and she was left to die
A DONDOTHA Reserve gogo was attacked, her throat slit and left to die in her home on Sunday.
According to uMfolozi Municipality ward 9 Cllr F Mpungose, Cabangile Bonisile Zungu (55) was alone at home while her 19-year-old granddaughter attended a function in the neighbourhood.
Apparently when her granddaughter came back in the evening, she found gogo laying in her bed, bleeding from the throat and gasping for air.
She ran out to ask for help from the neighbours, who called the police and the ambulance.
He said, ‘She further continued, saying when the gogo succumbed to her injuries, the neighbours called the undertakers, who on arrival confirmed the gogo’s throat was slit with a sharp object and she died from those wounds.’
Mpungose continued to say on close inspection, it was found the gogo’s money bag, which she used to tie around her waist to hide it from criminals, was gone.
It was also reported the gogo’s knife, which she usually kept in her room, was also missing – sparking further suspicions her own knife must have been used in the commission of the gruesome act.
Empangeni SAPS Spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose confirmed the killing of Gogo Zungu and said a case of murder had been opened at the KwaMbonambi Police Station.
‘No arrest has been made yet, but KwaMbonambi detectives are investigating the murder.’
