MESSAGES from local government and traffic officials this festive season is very clear: don’t take chances.
Other than an emphasis on the ‘zero tolerance’ policy usually adopted during the festive season, the Road Traffic Management Corporation yesterday announced a list of nine traffic offences that will have drivers arrested on the spot.
– Driving without a license
– Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs
– Failing to wear a seatbelt
– Using an unroadworthy vehicle
– Using an unregistered vehicle or having an expired license disc
– Exceeding the speed limit
– Overtaking on a barrier line
– Driving though a red traffic light
– Not having a number plate on the front and back of your vehicle
RTMC CEO Makhosini Msibi warned that they will be making these arrests, as they believed traffic fines were not a strong enough deterrent.
