Father discovers body of drowned son
A young man's body washed up on the beach nearly 7km from where he went missing
A DESPERATE search for a missing 25-year-old man ended in heartache on Thursday morning when his father discovered his body floating in the surf on a beach in Nyoganyane, Mapelane.
According to reports Lidongwe Nhleko and a friend had gone swimming on Wednesday afternoon and encountered some difficulty getting back out onto the beach.
Two nearby fishermen rushed to his aid, but unfortunately could not reach Nhleko to pull him out of the water.
Empangeni SAPS Search and Rescue members were dispatched on Thursday morning to search for him, but the operation was delayed by the receding tide.
At around 1pm on Thursday Nhleko’s father discovered his body some 7km from the point where he went missing.
This is the second incident this month the Search and Rescue team were dispatched to, after a 13-year-old girl drowned in a river in the Melmoth area while playing with friends in the water.
