Three dead, 13 injured in Melmoth pass crash

Reports from the scene indicate that roads are slippery and wet.

THREE people died and a further 13 were injured when the taxi they were traveling in collided with a bakkie near the Nkwaleni intersection of the R34 and R66.

The accident occurred earlier today on the Ndundulu Pass (Melmoth) and according to reports the recovery of vehicles is still in progress.

Officials on scene are urging motorists to drive cautiously in the area, as roads are slippery and wet.

The taxi was traveling from Vryheid to Empangeni and appeared to have rolled down a steep embankment when it collided with the bakkie.

Paramedics confirmed the injured patients were in a ‘serious condition’.

This is the second car crash with multiple fatalities in the last few days.
