Financial boost for endurance series

TRIATHLON in South Africa has received a boost with the announcement that insurerance company MiWay will sponsor the ULTRA Triathlon Series that takes place in KZN Midlands, Sun City and Cape Town for the next three years.

The series, which is a true test of willpower, endurance and human spirit, has been organized and managed by Damian Bradley from B-Active Sports for the past seven years.

Bradley is thrilled with the new title sponsor which has doubled the prize money purse to R90 000 per event, which means that focus can shift to developing this popular growing sport and increasing accessibility to athletes throughout the country.

The ULTRA Triathlon events start with the Midlands Ultra Triathlon in March, followed by the Sun City Ultra in May and then the inaugural Cape Ultra in September.

The last in the series will be the Midlands Ultra event in November.

At each fixture, the ULTRA event comprises a 1.9km swim, 90km road cycling and a 21km run.

It is complemented by a second sprint category, consisting of a 600m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, which provides an option for beginners.

Competitors can participate individually or in relay teams.
