THE situation in the Jozini district remains tense as members of the Machibini community escalated protests this morning.
Roads continue to be blockaded by rocks and trees and motorists and workers are being denied any access – including to Bethesda Hospital.
A local resident reported that even a doctor, who resides at the hospital was forbidden to enter the premises.
According to the resident, what began as a protest against lack of municipal services, especially water, has now been taken over by a ‘criminal element’.
Indigenous trees on a number of private properties are being hacked down to create barricades across the roads.
‘We are literally fearful for our lives as the mob are extremely aggressive. We daren’t even try to travel from our home,’ Ubombo resident.
