DARING criminals escaped police custody by the skin of their teeth yesterday, after nearly being cornered by Empangeni K9 Unit officers during a house robbery.
CCTV footage of the scene was shared with the Zululand Observer – WATCH below.
It shows three men nonchalantly jumping over the fence of a house in Waterbok Street before forcing open the gate and reversing their Golf 6 GTI into the driveway just after 1pm.
Within 15 minutes, they had forced the door open with a screwdriver, grabbed a flat screen TV, jewellery, a tablet and cell phones.
They also locked the domestic worker in the bathroom, after they found her hiding in a wardrobe.
But not before she managed to call the owner of the home, who in turn alerted the police.
Narrow escape
Empangeni K9 Unit officers who were in the vicinity responded to the call, only to be confronted with the fleeing suspects.
In the video, one of the officers can be seen jumping out of the police vehicle as the suspects race past, one of the robbers jumping into the moving vehicle.
Unfortunately, the robbers made a clean getaway, losing police in upper President Swart Road.
