Zuma bodyguard shot and killed in eShowe

An off-duty bodyguard protecting Jacob Zuma was murdered this morning.

A BODYGUARD working for the Presidential Protection Unit of President Jacob Zuma has been shot and killed at his house near eShowe.

Major Thulani Zwane, KZN police spokesman, told The Mercury that 42-year-old Sergeant NJ Magwaza was shot dead at his home in eNtumeni at around 1.30am this morning.

It is believed Magwaza was stationed at the president’s Nkandla homestead and was off-duty at the time.

‘He was attacked by an unknown male and shot,’ said Zwane.

The suspect also tried to torch the rondavel in which Magwaza had been sleeping but the fire was extinguished.

‘eShowe police are investigating a case of murder but no arrests have been made. The Richards Bay Organised Crime Intelligence unit has also responded to the incident,’ he said.

In July this year, a bodyguard for KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu, was also shot and killed in Dumisani Makhaye Village near Empangeni.
