Houses for destitute families

Two families will each receive a two bedroom house worth R200 000.

STANDARD Bank, in partnership with Mandeni Municipality, is bringing hope to two Mandeni families.

The two needy families, orphaned 23-year-old Mandla Khumalo and Gogo Mthethwa, who shares a home with nine people, will each receive a two bedroom house worth R200 000.

The needy families were identified by the municipality.

For Khumalo, life has been difficult since the death of his parents years ago, leaving him to fend for himself.

Khumalo had to build himself a mud and plank house which leaks when it rains.

Owing to their lack of proper housing, the Mthethwas regularly fall victim to crime and they all depend on the pension of frail Gogo Mthethwa.

Standard Bank KZN Provincial Head Toy Mzimela said, ‘We committed ourselves to build houses for these two destitute families.’

Mzimela said only local people will be employed in the building processes of the two houses, which he promised would be finished by Christmas.

Mandeni Municipality Mayor Cllr S’phesihle Zulu challenged Mandeni businesses and industries operating in the area to honour their social responsibilities and help change the lives of their employees and their families for the better.
