UPDATE: Shopping centre murder accused acquitted

The man accused of slashing Sihle Shandu's throat at Central Park Shopping Centre has been found not guilty

THE 57-year-old man, who was charged with the murder of Sihle Shandu (30) in April this year, has been found not guilty.

The Zululand Observer reported that Shandu had been declared dead in the parking area of Central Park Shopping Centre on 26 April, just after 2pm in the afternoon.

Shandu was allegedly stabbed to death following an argument with the accused.

According to witnesses Shandu and the accused had quarreled the day before the argument, culminating in Shandu slapping the man.

He returned to the shopping centre the next day to make peace, but a fight broke out during which Shandu’s throat was cut with a broken bottle.

The Empangeni Regional Court found him not guilty on Thursday, 1 October after the case was postponed multiple times.

At the time of going to print, police comment on the circumstances surrounding the acquittal was not available.
