UPDATE: Double shooting went unheard

Police have confirmed that the shooting could be a murder, suicide.

THE shooting that occurred this morning inside a commune on Louis Both Avenue, Empangeni, has preliminarily been ruled a murder and suicide.

At around 9am, the bodies of a 48-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were discovered inside a room in the home, both with fatal gunshot wounds.

It is believed the man first shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself.

Unheard

According to one tenant, he was asleep at the time and did not hear the shots.

‘Another guy who lives here told me he tried to wake me at 9am, but I did not hear him. I did not hear anything,’ he said.

Next-door neighbours also reported that they did not hear any commotion this morning.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this stage, to allow investigators time to notify the next of kin.

It is believed the man was working as a security guard at a hospital in Gingindlovu and a .38 revolver was recovered at the scene.

A case of murder and an inquest docket has been opened by Empangeni SAPS.
