Pupil unrest under investigation

Calm restored at Birdswood Secondary School after pupils riot.

POLICE were deployed to Birdswood Secondary School on Thursday to control and disperse rioting pupils.

While details remain sketchy about what caused the incident, it is believed the pupils began protesting because they did not want one of their teachers to leave the school.

Some damage to property was reported as the screaming pupils expressed their anger.

This after unconfirmed allegations that matriculants often sit in classes with no teachers.

Police were stationed at the school on Friday to monitor the situation while management was involved in meetings with the School Governing Body.

uThungulu Department Of Education Director – David Chonco confirmed that the Circuit Manager Musa Madondo would visit the school on Friday to investigate the matter.
