BREAKING NEWS: Pupil shot, killed in school revenge attack

Man shoots Grade 12 pupil before turning gun on himself at school in Port Durnford.

TWO youngsters including a pupil were tragically killed in what has been described as a ‘fit of rage’ by a jealous boyfriend at Qantayi High School in eMahunu Reserve near Port Durnford earlier today.

It is believed a 22-year-old suspect, who was reportedly upset with a Grade 12 pupil for ‘sitting with his girlfriend’ the day before, stormed the classroom this morning, shooting and killing the pupil at close range in front of the teacher and  entire class.

Members of the Empangeni K9 Unit were swiftly on the scene in search of the suspect, who had fled outside the school premises.
When police members finally tracked him down, the armed man was told to surrender his firearm.

He then reportedly turned around, faced the police, dropped to his knees before shooting himself.

The suspect allegedly left a note at home earlier this morning indicating that he intended killing the respective pupil. He had somehow managed to steal his girlfriend’s grandfather’s firearm before proceeding to the school.

Senior officials including uThungulu District Education Director David Chonco and representatives from the Department of Community Safety and Liaison were also on the scene consoling traumatised pupils, teachers and community members.

This attack comes in the wake of a Mtubatuba pupil being stabbed to death by a classmate last Friday.
