Survivor calls for organ donations

THE uThungulu Association for Kidney Patients has appealed to the community to consider donating their organs to people living with kidney conditions.
Speaking at the Empangeni Kidney and Dialysis Centre, where he celebrated five years’ survival on dialysis, the Association’s Secretary Sabelo Mchunu said they have realised how expensive it was to maintain a patient living with this condition.
‘While one is grateful to have lived thus far with this condition, it has been a tough journey, and there were many challenges on the way. That’s why we are calling for organ donations from the community.
‘People can visit hospitals and any doctor will provide advice on how to go about donating organs.’
Mchunu said his greatest achievement was the formation of the association in 2012.
‘Our objective for the association was to support each other as kidney patients and to create an awareness, especially now that we are in August, the month set aside for organ donation awareness.’
