AS part of a Grade 12 business study project, Richards Bay Christian School’s matrics developed a 100% organic body soufflé product, bottled, labelled and even available for purchase by the public.
The project started last year when the pupils were tasked with the challenging assignment of creating a distinct product in three variations.
They had to draw up a business plan, design a logo and even design sustainable packaging that expresses the value of compassion, excellence and leadership at the school.
After finding the basic formula for body hydration, they set out to research the value of essential elements of cream and experimented with different combinations of fragrances that would become their body soufflé’s three scents, named after Job’s daughters Jemimah, Keziah and Keren-Happuch.
Over 200 jars have already been sold to the public at R50 a container, with discounted rates for re-using the bottles in the future.
Management and marketing of the product will now be handed over to the Entrepreneurial Leadership Portfolio, which was established at the beginning of the year to explore learners’ entrepreneurial skills and apply business principles in real-life scenarios.
Profits for charity
‘All profits are given to the school’s Outreach Portfolio actively involved in serving rural daycare centers by enhancing Early Childhood Development (ECD),’ said Richards Bay Christian School Marketing and Communications Manager Cherona Dannhauser.
‘This is done by providing ongoing training for caregivers.
‘In addition, the outreach portfolio provides resources to the daycare centres such as food, clothing and facility development.
‘We see ourselves as an extension of the school’s outreach programme as we can serve by contributing finances for this programme development.’
