Local road cyclist Heidi Dalton to represent South Africa at African Games

ZULULAND road cyclist Heidi Dalton is in good form heading into the upcoming 11th African Games scheduled in Brazzaville, Congo from 4-19 September, where she will represent team South Africa.

The talented young cyclist who signed with team Lotto Belisol in Holland last year, participated in the Erondegemse Pijl Erpe Mere Women’s Elite 1.2 UCI Race on Saturday where she ended 52nd out of 151 riders.

The total distance for Saturday’s race was 119.8km, which consisted of a 1.6km Neutral zone before the start, a lap of 6.8km, followed by a larger lap of 39.4km and then 8 laps of 9.2kms each.

‘The course had loads of corners and was very technical. The racing was tough and with 30km to go, I had nothing left in the legs and therefore ended up finishing 52nd,’ said Dalton.

Dalton was then invited to participate in the International Natour Criterium Ninove on Sunday, which was a 52km event of 35, 1.5km laps.

‘This race was crazy. Once again loads of corners and high speeds. But I had a better day at the office and ended sixth overall.’

Dalton will be coming home at the end of the month before heading off to the Congo to represent her country.
