New school for Shakaskraal

A no-fees school will bring dignity to the people.

THE community of Nkobongo, a township in the heart of Shakaskraal was on 4 August the proud beneficiaries of a brand new school.

Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality, Ricardo Mthembu said the birth of Dinuphozo Primary School, a no-fees school will bring dignity to the people

of KwaDukuza.

KZN MEC for Education Peggy Nkonyeni said her department spent over R22-million to build the school.

‘The school consists of 26 classrooms, a sports field, a computer lab, a library, a multi-purpose centre, 16 ablution blocks and an early childhood development centre,’ Nkonyeni said.

Before the building of the new school, teachers used Nkobongo Hall to teach their pupils.

It is said at the old school there was no water, no ablution facilities and not enough space for the pupils.

School Principal, Miss P Vilakazi said they had to endure dust, wind and cold spells while teaching in the old hall.

‘Through all these trials and tribulations, we gritted our teeth and persevered. Now we stand here today, tall and proud for our new school, Dinuphozo,’ said Vilakazi.
