Scammers posing as SASSA representatives

You will never believe what these conmen are doing to unsuspecting social grant beneficiaries.

UNSCRUPULOUS service providers have been issuing fraudulent cards on behalf of the KZN South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) – this according to the parastatal.

Empangeni SASSA Senior Communications and Marketing Manager, Vusi Mahaye said there have been people belonging to financial service providers issuing bank cards under the pretence of representing SASSA.

‘They have been misleading and preying on social grant beneficiaries,’ Mahaye said.

‘We want to put it on record that we are not issuing new cards of any kind, except the original SASSA card, which can only be received from our offices upon applying for a social grant or a replacement for lost cards.

SASSA Regional Executive Manager, Pearl Bengu reiterated the correct processes followed to obtain a card and added that the institution is currently not dispensing new cards.

‘In addition to this, we are also concerned about the increasing number of people falling victim to illegal deductions for airtime, electricity, insurances and other products they have no knowledge of.

‘We are calling upon all recipients, who have experienced these deductions, to visit the nearest SASSA offices to report those cases,’ Bengu added.
