Power supply cut-off angers resident

Technicians to check all the meter breakers.

EMPANGENI resident Thami Nkosi of 27 Moberly Road has a bone to pick with the City of uMhlathuze.

The source of his frustration is the disconnection of his electricity supply.

‘My woes started in 2010 when the municipality disconnected my power supply without notifying me. I had to phone the emergency call centre to report the power fault.

‘A technician came out to investigate and discover that the breaker inside the meter box was off.

‘He phoned his supervisor after realising that my account was up to date, and it was only then that he was able to reconnect my supply.

‘I took up the issue with the then Municipal Manager Nathi Nhleko. He apologised on the municipality’s behalf and said it would not happen again.

‘But on Monday morning I awoke facing the same dilemma.

‘At first I thought there was load-shedding, but after checking with my neighbours it was obvious the problem was with me.

‘I had to phone the call centre again, demanding reconnection.

City of uMhlathuze Communications Manager Mdu Ncalane said the City noted Mr Nkosi’s concerns.

‘We regret the inconvenience caused to him and his family. We are investigating this matter. We sent our technicians to check all the meter breakers and could not identify the source of the problem, but will continue until a solution is found.’
