UPDATE: Injured hadeda still on the loose

An injured hadeda spotted earlier this week is still on the loose.

A HADEDA found with an arrow lodged in its wing earlier this week was spotted again in Via Cassandria in Arboretum on Friday afternoon.

The concerned resident who reported the first sighting of the bird, was stunned when she noticed the injured bird in her garden once again.

‘I could tell his injury had deteriorated as he could not fly a great distance or height,’ she said.

She immediately contacted the Richards Bay SPCA, but received no response.

After the first sighting, SPCA Inspector Shelly Prinsloo responded and confirmed they had been unable to capture the injured bird.

‘Unfortunately we cannot just dart the bird with a tranquiliser because it could die,’ said Prinsloo.

‘We request the public to contact us when they see this bird so that we can capture it and transport it to the nearest vet.’

With a zero tolerance policy to animal cruelty, the SPCA urges the public to report any cruelty they witness by phoning 035 7532086 during office hours and on 073 5514564 for after-hour emergencies.
