Transforming teens – one day at a time

Empangeni's Desiré Laatz lives each day imparting valuable life lessons and spiritual truths to Zululand youngsters

WITH a sparkle in her eye and an infectious smile, Crossroads Teen Centre Operations Manager Desiré Laatz believes she was called to do her job.

Every day the 26-year-old from Empangeni imparts valuable life lessons and spiritual truths to Zululand youngsters.

Desiré joined the Crossroads team in Empangeni in November last year after being informed about the position through her pastor.

Although holding a degree in business management, she felt God had other ideas for her life.

Once notified about the position, Desiré quit her job in the HR department at a local funeral company, completely changing the direction she was on career wise.

‘God changed my heart. I realised I didn’t want to do Business Management, but rather go into youth ministry and I am pursuing a Christian counselling course,’ said Desiré.

She believes her heart lies in helping teenage girls and getting to know them on a spiritual level.

Crossroads caters for students from all walks of life and what makes her job worthwhile is when teens have spiritual encounters and open up to the leaders.

When she’s not at work, Desiré spends time with her friends in Mtunzini and attends church on Sundays.

Although she enjoys small talk, she would much rather prefer getting to know people on a deeper level.

‘I like hearing people’s hearts and having honest conversations’.
