City announces water cuts
Residents will face water restrictions twice a day between 27 and 31 July
THE City of uMhlathuze today announced there will be water cuts later this month.
According to a post on the uMhlathuze Municipality Facebook page, uploaded at around 11.30am, ‘Domestic Water Users residing in Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 23, 24, 26 and 27 in Richards Bay, Empangeni and Ngwelezana’ will face water restrictions in the form of water supply closures.
The cut-offs will take place daily from 27 to 31 July at 4am to 9am and 5pm to 10pm.
According to City spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane, the restrictions are being implemented due to the severe drought.
‘We must manage water usage, otherwise sooner or later we will run completely dry,’ he said.
‘We also urge residents to use water sparingly.’
Ncalane told the Zululand Observer that although no times would be suitable for everyone, the City believed these times were ‘suitable for our citizens’.
The post was signed off ‘inconvenience regretted.’
‘The City will continue to communicate any further cuts at a later stage,’ said Ncalane.
