eShowe SAPS bids farewell to its leader

eShowe police chief Brigadier Marie Wilson, retires.

AFTER 37 years’ service in the SAPS, eShowe Cluster Commander, Brigadier Marie Wilson will be retiring from the service at the end of June.

Sentiments voiced at her farewell function was a clear indication that she will be leaving a big void in the SAPS.

Officers described her as humble and friendly, always with a smile. Chairperson of the eShowe Cluster CPF, MP Ntuli, said he felt welcome when attending meetings with her as she is calm and friendly and made him feel at home.

He said that he is sure she is not leaving the partnership between the police and civil society and as a civilian will continue to fight against crime with the police.

eShowe Station Commander, Col MJ Mathenjwa, applauded her for her commitment and success over 37 years in the service.

She went through all the ranks, has great integrity and is not influenced easily, he said.

Wilson has led from the front and has created good commanders under her watch in eShowe Cluster.

In thanking the SAPS staff, Brigadier Wilson said, ‘I would like to thank God for the life He gave me and the opportunity He gave me to serve Him in the SAPS for 37 years.

‘It is only through His grace and guidance that I am here today.

‘I need to thank my husband, Des, he is my biggest critic and he made sure that my head is out of the clouds and my feet stay firmly on the ground, but he was also my biggest supporter.’

She said SAPS made her into the person she is and she thanked all those who influenced her life including all uniformed and non-uniformed staff and the provincial office under the Provincial Commissioner, Genl Ngobeni.
