Empangeni Ward 23 goes online

It was inspired by other Democratic Alliance ward initiatives in the country that use this method to create a better relationship between the residents and the municipality.

ONE of the busiest wards in the City of uMhlathuze now has a fully functioning online complaints system.

Ward 23, which includes Empangeni CBD, can now boast an online portal for complaints and compliments.

‘I was inspired by other Democratic Alliance ward initiatives in the country that uses this method to create a better relationship between the residents and the municipality.

‘The aim is to get issues sorted out faster and more effectively,’ explained Andrè de Lange, Ward 23 Councillor.

The website has been running for a month, and has so far logged 40 reports which have been resolved efficiently.

When a resident submits a complaint via the website, an email is immediately sent to the relevant supervisor or official responsible for the area.

The same email is also sent to the deputy and municipal manager as well as to Cllr de Lange.

A response is also generated to the user, acknowledging the complaint or compliment.

If a report is submitted to the wrong department, the receiver will pass on the complaint and inform the user of the error.

On the line

‘The entire process is to assist the complainant and for us to keep track of every issue,’ said De Lange.

Users can also upload a photograph of the issue, via their smart phones or tablets.

‘The website is also linked to my Facebook page called ‘Ward 23′,’ said De Lange.

‘I do try and upload information regularly so that residents can stay informed.’

Users can log on to www.umhlathuze23.org.za or search ‘Ward23’ on Facebook.
