Seven tries for rampant eSikhawini

eSikhawini ran in seven tries to beat Empangei 1 in a Stewart Shield fixture played at the Richards Bay Rugby Club.

ESIKHAWINI literally ran circles around Empangeni 1 in a Stewart Shield rugby fixture at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Friday evening, running out 49-10 victors.

It took 30 seconds for the home side to open the scoring with a well-worked try in the corner.

Empangeni managed to dominate in the scrums and line-outs, but this held no advantage as eSikhawini dominated field and ball possession.

Poor handling did cost eSikhawini a handful of tries, but despite that they managed to dot down seven times to claim a bonus point.

Sizwe Majola, Thokozane Hlehla, Philani Bhengu, Lindani Mnyeni, Andile Ndwandwe, Simphiwe Mahlaba and Fish Molondo all crossed the chalk for the eSikhawini lads.

Philani Behngu packed in his kicking boots, converting all seven tries.

Cam Mjulu and Njabulo Mathaba scored for the Empangeni outfit.

The lack of depth and fitness proved costly for Empangeni.

Empangeni 1 will host Mtubatuba at Mick Kelly Park on Friday evening in their next fixture. Kick-off is at 8pm.

eSikhawini will have a bye and host Hluhluwe at Richards Bay Rugby Club on Friday, 19 June at 8pm.
