SA surf champs for Richards Bay

SA's top surfers to tackle Richards Bay's wild winter waves.

SURFING history will be made in August when Richards Bay hosts the 2015 Citroën SA Surfing Championships.

The event, scheduled for 2 – 9 August, will incorporate both the 50th SA Senior Surfing Championships as well as the 10th SA Masters Championships.

Citroën South Africa will be the headline sponsor of the event.

This will be the biggest surfing event Richards Bay has seen and will also be the first time that there will be an over 60s age division.

In another first, surfers will be able to represent their district teams in both the open and their own age group divisions.

To celebrate South African surfing’s 50th year of organised competition, Surfing South Africa will present a once-off celebration shield to the team with the highest combined points in all divisions.

The President’s Cup will be won by the team achieving the highest points in the Open and U/20 divisions and the Masters Cup will be won by the team with the highest overall points in the Masters age groups (over 30 women and over 35 to over 60 men).

Proud partners

Event hosts uThungulu Surfriding have, with their organising committee, been working hard to facilitate the smooth running of the championships.

This task has been made easier with the invaluable partnerships secured with local business, tourism and local government in the form of support and sponsorship.

Notably, the committee is proud to have the Zululand Observer (as media partner), uMhlathuze Community Tourism Organisation and the City of uMhlathuze on board for this event.

The championships will kick off with the opening function at the Zululand Multi Sports Club on 2 August and will end with all the finals and the closing event on 9 August, National Women’s Day.

To commemorate Women’s Day, the last three finals of the event will be the Over 30 women’s final, followed by the Under 20 girls final and the Open women’s final.

A 26 minute Supersport production will be compiled for this prestigious event and professional photographers will be on hand to cover the action.
