Another armed robbery in Empangeni CBD
Armed robbers have struck again, this time outside Sanlam Centre in Empangeni
FOR the second time in two weeks, brazen armed robbers struck in the Empangeni CBD in broad daylight.
At approximately 9.30am on Monday morning, three men armed with AK47s and a pistol held up a Protea Coin armoured cash-in-transit vehicle outside Sanlam Centre in Empangeni.
A fourth suspect operated as the driver, and remained inside the vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Polo registration ND 128433.
Residents having breakfast at a restaurant nearby bore witness to the incident, and even snapped pictures of the getaway car.
The robbers made off with a Coin box which had just been collected for banking, and a firearm taken from one of the armed guards.
Both guards were shaken but fortunately not injured.

A list of questions was sent to the Sanlam Centre manager and a comment is forthcoming.
