Countdown for iSimangaliso half marathon

Dedicated to fallen colleagues, the 2015 iSimangaliso/St Lucia Half Marathon on 10 May will also take a stand against xenophobia

THE annual iSimangaliso/St Lucia half marathon and fun run is fast approaching and participants are reminded they can enter online.

The first 300 entrants will receive a free event T-shirt.

The race takes place on Sunday, 10 May and pre-entry via the iSimangaliso website closes at 5pm on 5 May.

Apart from being dedicated to fallen colleagues Jabu Msezane, Herbert Mthembu and Thembi Buthelezi, this year’s event will also take a stand against xenophobia under the banner ‘We are one’.

Catering for all levels of fitness, participants can choose between a 5km or 10km run or walk and the 21.1km half marathon, an official race sanctioned by KZN Athletics.

An event for the entire family, there is also a children’s race in which they can win prizes and trophies.

Starting and finishing outside the St Lucia Ski Boat Club, the scenic route includes the iGwalagwala Trail, Beach Road and St Lucia boardwalk along the estuary banks.

An increase in sponsorship from St Lucia businesses means this year’s prize money has tripled.

Half marathon winners, both men and women, will receive R1 700, while winners in other categories will not go home empty handed.

Those who don’t finish in a top position still stand a chance of winning spot prizes and lucky draws.

Registration takes place at the St Lucia Ski Boat Club on 9 May between 3 and 5pm and on 10 May between 6 and 7.30am.

Entries costs between R20 and R50, depending which category is entered.
