Mbambo gets his big break

eNgwelezane actor Mthandeni Mbambo has joined the prestigious Ferguson Films company.

LOCAL actor Mthandeni Mbambo (30) is on the way up after being signed up by Ferguson Films in Johannesburg earlier this month.

A visit to a local mall was the first step to success for the Ngwelezane-born Mbambo.

He was doing his usual shopping in Empangeni earlier this year when he noticed an opportunity that changed his life.

Mbambo auditioned for the Maq national competition.

‘When I realised there were auditions held at the mall, I forgot about shopping. It was an opportunity I have waited for all my life,’ he said.

He impressed the judges and outshone thousands of hopefuls from all over the country. After a few weeks, Mbambo was one of the top 15 finalists.

Even though Mbambo was not the ultimate competition winner, the rising star was appointed by well-known actor Shona Ferguson to join his production company.

According to Ferguson, Mbambo will feature in his next film. He will be mentored by Shona and his soapie actress wife, Connie Ferguson.

‘I have always wanted to be an actor, but being part of Ferguson Films is beyond any dream. It’s more than winning a competition, but a platform that will showcase my talent to the world,’ said Mbambo.

He said his long-term goal was to write and produce local stories.

‘I wish to do things back in Zululand. Write about my experiences here, and also inspire and train youngsters who want to be involved in art,’
