Women’s Institute celebrates milestone

Mzingazi Women’s Institute celebrated the organisation’s 25th anniversary.

LAST Wednesday was a special occasion for the Mzingazi Women’s Institute as they celebrated the organisation’s 25th anniversary.

Over the years, the WI’s members have participated in numerous charity projects, including knitting colourful Uthando dolls for disadvantaged children and collecting dog food for the SPCA.

‘We are so happy and excited about the WI’s 25th birthday, quite a milestone for us,’ said Mzingazi WI President Pat Patterson.

‘I think that we have a wonderful group of ladies, who are always willing to stand and work together for charity projects.

‘We also enjoy learning new crafts and are usually working towards our monthly competitions.

‘The women are enthusiastic about either learning something new or having a speaker come talk about some interesting topic.’

At the event last Wednesday, members also re-elected Patterson as President, Koekie Labuschagne as Treasurer and Erna Ellis as Secretary.

The Gardening Club’s Eileen Russell then gave an interesting presentation on the best trees to plant in small gardens in Zululand.

Sea Rescue Station 19’s Mike Patterson also spoke about the NSRI’s crucial services along northern KZN’s coastline.

Pat said the group welcomes any new members to attend meetings held at the Pelican Hall at 5pm on the first Wednesday of every month.
