Rotary clubs to the rescue

Two Zululand Rotary clubs partner to assist a hemiplegic Nongoma man.

AFTER suffering from a stroke and subsequently losing his job, a Nongoma man was left with half his body paralysed and two children still in his care.

Vincent Buthelezi, father of three and once a dapper gentleman employed by a Durban company, has been bed-bound for the past three years at his home in rural Nongoma.

Unfortunately the physical rehabilitation programme he participated in was unsuccessful.

Having recently lost his wife, his sister Rose Buthelezi has stepped up to care for him and his children.

Empangeni Rotarian, Eric Bernon heard the plight of destitute Vincent and rallied the support of other Rotary members to alleviate some of the challenges Vincent faced.

‘Through business referral I made contact with Vincent, and we were able to assess what the most pressing needs for him were, and how he could be assisted to achieve a better quality of life.’ Bernon said.

Empangeni Rotary Club handed over a wheelchair to Vincent, while Nongoma Rotary Club members will assist in the application process of a disability grant.

‘The willingness and commitment of three past presidents of the Nongoma Rotary Club, to commit to assisting Vincent where possible is a true reflection of the pledge made by Rotarians throughout the world.’ Bernon said.
